Tasting room FAQs

What do you mean by a communal dining experience?
dessert tasting room is like a dessert-forward dinner party. All of our guests sit at long communal tables. This means you may sit across from someone you do not know. We do this intentionally. It is part of our goal to connect people with one another while sharing a fun experience.

Why tickets instead of reservations?
We offer tickets in order to ensure that we fill every seat. In doing so, it provides a great energy to the room. 

What does the ticket include?
Your ticket includes our dessert tasting menu, with the option of a wine pairing when you purchase your ticket. Tax and 20% gratuity are automatically added to your ticket price upon completing your purchase.

Why do we automatically add a service charge to the ticket price?
Paying for tickets and gratuities in advance allows our guests to relax and have a great evening — paying the bill has already been taken care of. All of our employees work together to make the evening a memorable experience and the gratuity is shared among our entire team.

Can I get a refund after purchasing my ticket? 
Unfortunately, no. Just as a ticket purchased to a concert, performance at DPAC, or sporting event, all sales are final. Tickets are transferable.

Can I give my ticket away or sell it? 
Yes, of course you can. However, anyone who purchases a ticket from someone else is responsible for contacting MATTA via email to ensure that the ticket and time are correct. 

What are beverage pairings?
We offer a pairing of 5 to 6 beverages that are selected to complement the courses and poured in sync with dishes they complement. You can choose a beverage pairing when you purchase your ticket.

Can I bring my own wine?
With prior arrangement you may bring your own wine. A $10 corkage fee will apply.

Do you accommodate dietary restrictions?
We will happily accommodate allergies and dietary restrictions as long as we are given 48 hours advanced notice. We are not able to accommodate vegan diners, as doing so requires substantial disruption to the flow of the meal that is designed to be the same for an entire seating of guests. We can certainly refund a reservation if we cannot accommodate a party’s dietary restrictions. Email to request accommodation of any serious dietary restriction.  

What to do if you are running late
Please call us at 919-645-8206 if you are running more than 15 minutes late, but please know the the meal will start without you. If you are late, you will miss courses for which you are not present so please try to be there on time.

Is MATTA dessert tasting kid friendly?
No, but that does not mean you cannot bring children. We are asking all of our guests to prepay for an experience lasting about 2 1/2 hours, sitting communally. Our recommendation is not to bring children under the age of 10. A child requiring a seat of their own must have a ticket and we will serve them the same meal that we serve adult diners, without kid-specific modifications.

Wedding CAKE FAQs

How far in advance do I need to order a wedding cake? We require a minimum of one month’s notice and will accept orders up to 1 year in advance.  

What are your typical wedding cake sizes and pricing?
Small three-tiered cake (10", 6", 4"): $420, serves 60*
Large three-tiered cake (12", 8", 6"): $700, serves 100*

*Cost is for base cake flavors and does not include delivery fee or tax. Any add-ons, such as edible flowers or intricate design, will be an additional charge. We offer gluten free versions of all of our cakes and cupcakes for an additional charge of $50.

Do you offer cake tastings? Yes of course! We offer tastings for orders of $100 or more. Contact us at to schedule an appointment. Please note that there is a $20 tasting fee. At the tasting you will be able to sample up to three flavors of cake or mini pastries and we can help you choose flavors, quantities, and design.  

Specialty Cakes & Cupcakes FAQs

How far in advance do I need to order my cake or cupcakes? We require 48 hours advanced notice for placing your order.

Is there a minimum order for cupcakes? Yes, for regular size cupcakes it is one dozen. For mini size cupcakes our minimum order is 2 dozen.
